Joseph Kochanski

Vice President, Markets

Joseph Kochanski is a sustainability professional with more than 15 years of international experience in social and environmental auditing, standards development, carbon dioxide removal certification, quality assurance, supply chain traceability, responsible sourcing, international business, and operational leadership. Joseph grew up camping, hiking, hunting, and fishing in Central Wisconsin, where he formed a strong bond with the natural environment. Through these experiences at an influential age, he decided to dedicate his life to conservation.

After studying environmental studies, sociology, international business, and sustainability at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Joseph went on to run a small business before relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area to support a niche social and environmental certification company known as SCS Global Services. During his 12-year tenure at the company, he managed sales, marketing, account management, and business development activities within the company’s Natural Resources Division. He also opened an office in Melbourne, Australia, on behalf of the company and traveled extensively as an auditor in Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania, and throughout North America.

In 2022, Joseph dedicated his work fully to carbon dioxide removal, climate change mitigation and reversal, and corporate net-zero emissions implementation. He became the first U.S. employee of Nasdaq subsidiary Puro.earth and ultimately led the company’s Americas office for three years. In this role, he worked with all corners of the carbon removal ecosystem, including suppliers, buyers, intermediaries, dMRV providers, insurers, verifiers, and government stakeholders. Joseph has also served as an Advisory Board Member to the United States National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), advising on the safe and effective implementation of Biomass with Carbon Removal and Storage (BiCRS) projects. He is an accomplished public speaker and has hosted and spoken at climate change events across North America throughout the 2020s.

As of September 2025, Joseph joined Cowboy Clean Fuels to focus on all aspects of carbon removal, including monitoring, reporting, and verification; standard and registry selection; third-party audits; and commercialization of the company’s negative emissions. He is based in Salt Lake City, Utah, with his wife, son, and two dogs. He frequently visits the company headquarters in Denver, Colorado, and periodically travels to the operational geologic storage facilities near Gillette, Wyoming.
